New Start
Your goals are our mission.
New Start is SUNY Ulster's student success and opportunity program for adult learners (25+) working with limited resources. We partner with students to remove barriers to higher education, strengthen personal and professional skills, and support the completion of credentials that lead to career success.
Through one-on-one support, financial help, skills workshops, and a strong network of peers and professionals, New Start helps students follow through to graduation and build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and our community.

Eligibility
Applicants must:

Live in Ulster County, NY
-
Have a high school diploma or GED
-
Complete the FAFSA and TAP applications

Meet ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) income guidelines*
-
Pursue a SUNY Ulster credential leading to a well-paying career

*ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. The ALICE Project is a collaboration of United Ways across the country. The average ALICE household survival budget for NYS is $41,964 (or $20.98/hour) for a single adult and $109,992 (or $55.00/hour for a family of four consisting of two adults, one infant and one preschooler.
