SUNY Ulster Summer Arts Workshops
Animation
In this intro level class, students will learn the basic principles of animation! Using these principles, students will be able to see their animated projects come to life using both traditional and digital techniques. Students will work through various animation exercises to create a demo reel showcasing their animation skills. Age Groups - 11–15.

Color & Line
This immersive studio program introduces students to the dynamic relationship between drawing and painting. Participants explore how line becomes structure, how color builds emotion, and how observation transforms into expression. Over four technique-driven days, students move from foundational skill-building to experimental, large-scale work. Students may bring any related materials they already have. Each student will receive a personal sketchbook to keep, and all other materials will be provided. The final day culminates in a live painting performance and curated exhibition for families. Age Groups - 11–15.

Fashion Program
The Fashion Program at SUNY Ulster is a hands-on, creative program designed to introduce young students to the world of fashion through design, drawing, sewing, upcycling, and creative collaboration. Students will learn by doing—building confidence, problem-solving skills, and friendships along the way. This program emphasizes creativity, sustainability, and self-expression in a fun, supportive studio environment. Group 1: Ages 8–11, Group 2: Ages 12–15

Film without a Darkroom
DIY analog photography projects you can do at home with minimal materials - develop film in coffee, and print with the sun! Learn to shoot film on a 35mm film camera, develop that film using instant coffee (caffenol), scan it with a digital camera, and print the images with the cyanotype (blueprint) process. Not only do you not need a darkroom, but these processes are also safe and easy to do at home! Age groups 11-15.

Printmaking
The Summer Arts Academy Printmaking workshop will introduce students to the three basic types of printmaking: Relief, Intaglio, and Planographic by exploring the techniques of Linocut, Collagraph, and Monotype. This is a hands-on class in which students will use new tools to create and print multiple images while learning the basics of working in a printmaking studio. No previous printmaking experience required. Each student will receive a personal sketchbook to keep, and all other materials will be provided. Age groups 11-15.

Sculpture
Together we will investigate the question: "How do you make a sculpture?" Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials as we explore how art concepts apply to creating in 3 dimensions. Students are encouraged to bring in any related materials they already have. Each student will receive a personal sketchbook to keep, and all other materials will be provided. Age groups 11-15.

Stop Motion Animation
In this workshop, students will be introduced to the history, techniques, and tools essential for stop-motion animation. In addition to practical skills, we will explore the principles of animation through basic exercises, how to plan and time animations, and the history of the art form. We will utilize Dragonframe, a Stop Motion program with a traditional setup using a Camera and Tripod. Age groups 11-15.

This course will teach you all about digital cameras, from DSLRs to smart phone cameras and what different equipment is used for. You will learn about different display methods for your camera, including sizing, print options, online storage, and how social media factors into digital photography. 24 hours.

Learn to use digital editing techniques to show off your photos and memorabilia in Introduction to Digital Scrapbooking! Using Photoshop Elements, this course will teach you how to make the most of your scrapbooking talents and artistic ideas when you combine traditional and digital scrapbooking. 24 hours.

Interior design takes training as well as talent, and these lessons will give you the know-how you need to design a room from floor to ceiling.
