SUNY Ulster is accredited by:

As a unit of the State University of New York, the curricula have been approved by the SUNY Board of Trustees and are registered with the New York State Education Department, Office of Higher Education.

The College is authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York to award certificates, diplomas, and de grees of Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science.

Curricula are registered by the New York State Department of Education and are approved by the New York State Education Department for the training of veterans.

The College is approved for holders of New York State scholarships. In addition, the College's Engineering Science Program is affiliated with the Two-Year Engineering Science Association (TYESA).


SUNY Ulster is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the Commission) www.msche.org

On June 25, 2026, SUNY Ulster’s accreditation was reaffirmed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) through 2034, marking the most successful accreditation review in the College’s history. Following a comprehensive three-year institutional self-study and an on-site peer evaluation, the College met all seven MSCHE Standards for Accreditation, confirming its commitment to educational excellence, effective governance, strategic planning, financial sustainability, and student success.

In addition to earning reaccreditation for the maximum eight-year term, SUNY Ulster received five commendations for exemplary practices, recognizing its student-centered culture, commitment to continuous improvement, thoughtful use of assessment, and strategic focus on serving the evolving needs of Ulster County. The evaluation team also praised the College’s dedicated faculty and staff and noted that students feel deeply engaged, seen, and supported—affirming SUNY Ulster’s mission to provide a transformative educational experience that changes lives and strengthens the community.

MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission’s geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.
