Vice Chair
John M. Markes, Vice Chair, is a lifelong resident of Ulster County, a graduate of Kingston High School and a SUNY Ulster Alumni. Son of Dr. Robert J. Markes, former Vice President and Dean of Faculty at SUNY Ulster, John spent many hours on campus as a child which contributes to his deep affinity for the college. In 2014, John and his wife Debra established the Margaret and Robert Markes Memorial Scholarship to honor his parents and their commitment to education.
After attending SUNY Ulster, John went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in both Finance and Economics from SUNY Albany. John is currently the owner of Ohayo Professional Services, providing financial, strategic and operational mentoring to both existing and startup businesses. John has previously worked as an Executive in the Health Care and Banking Industries.
John was pleased to join the Foundation Board of Directors in 1990 and has served as Co-Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee, and as a member of the Investment Management Committee. Past board and community volunteer participation includes Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ulster County, Hospice of Ulster County, Ulster County Development Corporation, Girl Scouts of Ulster County, and Kingston Area Soccer League (KASL) Coach.
John is grateful for his family, which includes wife Debra, son Sean, daughter Kiley, daughter Caitlin and her spouse Dan, and his grandchildren Libby & Ben.
