SUNY Ulster's Driver Education program is offered at the following high schools: Highland, Kingston Center, Marlboro, New Paltz, Onteora, Rondout Valley, Saugerties & Wallkill. This 48-hour program is approved by the New York State Education Department. It includes six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, 18 hours of in-car observation and 24 hours of classroom training and orientation. Students are assigned to drive one day a week and to attend lecture one day a week. This program is administered in cooperation with an area auto school. Orientation is for those who have registered and those who have yet to register and need more information. Parents may also attend. If you are registered, your driving time will be given at orientation. Required: You must be at least 16 years of age at the time of orientation, possess a learner’s permit and have a completed Consent Form (see other side). Note: After two weeks from the start of the program no refunds will be issued.
