Coach Lombardo joined the SUNY Ulster staff in the Fall of 2015 to lead the Men's and Women's Cross Country programs. In three years six of his runners have earned All Mid-Hudson Conference Honors including Quintin Berteau in 2017. Lombardo had five men qualify to run at the NJCAA Division III National Championships in 2017. Lombardo has over 40 years of Cross Country Coaching experience. Prior to Ulster, he was the Head Cross Country Coach at Rhinebeck High School for three years, and was also an Industrial Arts/Technology teacher for 33 years, before retiring in 2010.
Coach Lombardo has certifications as a USATF Level 3 Coach as well as IAAF Level 5. He holds an A.S. from NYC Community College, a Bachelors in Industrial Education from NYU and a M.A. from NYU in Industrial Education. He is also a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of Saugerties and for the Adaptive Sports Foundation at Windham Mountain. John and his wife have been married for 32 years and they have three children.
