Summary

The State University of New York Ulster (SUNY Ulster) is seeking a chief business and financial officer to serve as the College’s Vice President of Administrative Services in Stone Ridge, NY.

The Vice President of Administrative Services is an exempt senior-level management position, reporting directly to the College President. This position is responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity and stability in the organization through the proper preparation and administration of the College budget; maintaining the College physical plant and facilities in a manner that assures a comfortable and safe workplace for employees and for ensuring an atmosphere conducive to learning for students; and overseeing the departments of Information Technology, Campus Safety and Security, Risk Management, and Human Resources.

Examples of duties:

  • Participate as a member of the President’s Cabinet; advise and confer with the President on management issues involving programs and services of the College, including development and revision of policies and procedures; participate in long-range planning and strategic planning regarding College activities and programs; estimate financial impact of policy options in order to support the decision-making process;
  • Plan and coordinate the preparation of the annual College budget; estimate income sources; recommend budget allocations; prepare budget projections and models, including long-range projections to develop a financial strategy for the College;
  • Prepare regular financial reports to the College President, College budget committee, and other appropriate groups;
  • Interpret College policy for Administrative Services; make decisions on matters as necessary;
  • In coordination with program area managers, ensure the campus’ goals and objectives for assigned areas of responsibility are met;
  • Develop and administer the College's financial, business, and operations policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Provide oversight to program area managers to ensure the smooth operation of those areas, including adequate staffing, performance management, training, policy and procedures;
  • Prepare all business reports and make presentations to the Board of Trustees; attend all board meetings;
  • Participate or lead the College’s negotiations team, as assigned.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s  or higher degree in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, Finance, Educational Administration, or related field with five years of progressively more responsible supervisory experience.

AND

  • Proven commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and student with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across a broad range of constituencies, and a demonstrated track record of identifying and implementing administrative process changes and improvements at a community college or other institution of higher education. 

Additionally, the candidate should have superior oral and written skills and the ability to present information in a manner which is clear and understandable to a broad audience.  

Salary

The anticipated annual initial salary is $100,000 to $115,000. Initial salary placement within that range will be commensurate with education, training and experience.

The College provides and an excellent benefit package, including a low cost/high coverage medical plan for employees and their dependents. Additionally, an employer paid dental, vision coverage, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage. Supplemental insurance and benefits are offered on a voluntary basis for Flexible Spending Account, Dependent Care, and Accident, amongst others.  

Administrators are offered a choice of retirement with the New York State Employees Retirement system or TIAA-CREF. Additional supplemental Retirement plans are offered on a voluntary basis, upon the employee’s election.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment with SUNY Ulster is not complete or official until applicants meet all pre-employment requirements. All new employees are required to submit official transcripts, proof of freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Employees must submit fingerprints for the New York Department of Justice clearance. 

The President and the selected candidate will agree mutually on the start date. Anticipated start date will be May or June 2016.
