Student Support Services is a federally funded U.S. Department of Education TRiO grant program that provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. A student is eligible to participate in the TRiO Student Support Services Program if he or she meets any of the following requirements: is a low income individual, first generation college student, or a student who has a disability. The following services will be offered to eligible students:  transition-to-college workshops and success seminars, academic advising and enrollment after an in-depth assessment, structured first year experience addressing learning styles and needs, tutoring mentoring, cultural enrichment activities, and career and transition activities.

Services provided include: academic counseling, financial counseling, personal counseling, transfer counseling, workshops, learning groups, and services for students with disabilities. In addition, a variety of workshops and field trips to promote student success are offered every year. These activities include transfer workshops using the internet and trips to a number of four-year colleges to assist with the transfer process. Students are offered the opportunity to study together in organized learning groups which are led by professional tutors. Those students who need one-to-one assistance are referred to appropriate tutors. Those with disabilities who need more specialized tutoring assistance are referred to the Learning Center. The Student Support Services Program also awards a limited amount of financial aid each semester to students who have met academic and program participation requirements.

The Learning Center has also developed a web site which features many links to their Student Support Services. Click here to view their section.

The Student Support Services Office also coordinates academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Documentation requirements and procedures for requesting accommodations are available on the Student Support Services web site. Students who are interested in participating in the program are invited to visit the offices located in Vanderlyn Hall (VAN 128) or to call 845: 688-6054 or 800: 724-0833, extension 6054.

The Student Support Services Program is funded by a $277,580.00 United States Department of Education Grant.
