Online Learning Orientation
~ Criteria for Students Taking Online Courses ~
The follow criteria is required of SUNY Ulster students who wish to take online courses:
1. Cumulative average of 2.5
In General:
Students taking online classes for the first time are required to have a cumulative average of at least a 2.5, or the course must be available by advisement.
First Semester:
Students in their first semester should demonstrate a strong aptitude in the subject to be taken online, based on their high school record. It is advisable to look for an overall average of 80 in all their high school coursework and 85 + in the subject area.
2. Online Orientation / Training
First time distance learning students should also complete online orientation/training: “How to Succeed in an Online Course” before they begin their courses.
3. Registration
Students must register for online courses before the start of classes. Should a student wish to add an online course after the start of classes, he or she must have a signed distance learning late add form, which requires the signature of the instructor, the academic dean, and a student success manager.
4. Regular, Consistent Computer Access
Because of the intensive nature of fully online courses, students should acknowledge that they have access to a computer approximately 10 to 15 hours a week in a 15 week course, 20 to 30 in a seven week course and 40 to 60 in a Winternet course.
