SUNY ULSTER Announces SBDC Counselors Awards ... Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center Regional Director Dr. Arnaldo Sehwerert announced that Sam Kandel, Certified Business Counselor at the center, has been selected the 2010 Counselor of the Year of the New York State SBDC Network.

   Kandel, who was also the state’s Counselor of the Year in 2005, and the state’s National Star Performer for 2006, was chosen for being an exemplary performer, making an extraordinary and significant contribution to the SBDC program and showing a strong commitment to small business in the Mid-Hudson area.
   “I am extremely pleased to make this announcement and to recognize Sam Kandel for his very important contributions to small businesses in the Mid-Hudson area,” Sehwerert said. “This dedicated professional has ensured that entrepreneurs and small business owners receive the best support and assistance possible to contribute to their success.
   Each year, the NYS Small Business Development Center network honors an outstanding SBDC counselor as their top performer. The Counselor of the Year Award was presented at a ceremony held during the NYSSBDC’s 2010 Annual Staff Training Event recently held in Syracuse.
   “It is an honor to accept this award for a second time,” Kandel said, “and to have the privilege of helping people succeed in their own business. It is an honor I share with my family, my clients, my colleagues and SUNY”
   The NYS Small Business Development Center Network is a partnership uniting private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations. It is the Small Business Administration’s largest partnership program, providing no-cost management and technical assistance and low-cost training to help Americans start, run and grow their own businesses.
   The Mid-Hudson SBDC is one of 24 centers in the state’s network. Covering a seven county area it is considered as one of the top centers in the amount of funds secured for Mid-Hudson clients and numbers of jobs created or saved for area small businesses. The center is partially funded by the US SBA and the Catskill Watershed Corporation, and hosted by SUNY Ulster.
   Mid Hudson Small Business Development Center Regional Director Dr. Arnaldo Sehwerert announced that Myriam Bouchard, Certified Business Counselor at the center, has received the 2010 Excellence in Service Award of the New York State SBDC Network.

   Bouchard, was also the state’s National Star Performer in 2008 and has been the recipient of three other awards for superior performance The Excellence in Service Award is given to a counselor that has provided outstanding service to their small business clients in a year in which the economy was still struggling to recover. Advisors presented with this award are considered among the top advisors in the state and have significantly exceeded expectations and performed at a higher level than most other advisors. They are also included in the list of contenders for the Counselor of the Year award.
   “Over the years, Myriam has been a consistent performer and a solid contributor to the economic well being of entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Mid-Hudson” said Center Director Dr. Arnaldo Sehwerert. “This is great, but the credit should really go to my clients who are the ones risking it all to follow their dreams” said Bouchard
   During the past 13 years, the Mid-Hudson SBDC counseling staff has received 15 state and national awards, making it one of the most recognized group of professionals in the state network.
