The Slate is SUNY Ulster's online student newspaper. As part of the curriculum of the Communications and Media Arts degree, students on the newspaper staff earn credit by working in one or more areas of newspaper publication: reporting, writing, editing, photography, advertising, page lay-out, and design. Students on staff must have already taken an introductory course in journalism.
The Slate provides a media matrix wherein news, literature, artwork, cartoons, audio files and video links will celebrate the activities and the creativity of the students, staff and faculty of SUNY Ulster.
We encourage contributions from all segments of the college community although our primary mission is to provide a forum for student journalism and creative writing. Unlike its printed predecessor, The Slate can be updated almost daily and readers can add comments to articles creating the possibility of a highly interactive environment. Classified ads can also be submitted for publication and will be run for a month with no charge.
We encourage you to visit the site and spread the word. Naturally we look forward to your comments and suggestions.
All members of the college community are encouraged to submit material to The Slate, including press releases pertaining to individual and group activities, advertisements, and opinion articles.
Send letters to the editor, story leads, suggestions and copy to: slatecopy@sunyulster.edu
