Safety Programs for Children and Youth:

The Mid-Hudson Health and Safety Institute at SUNYUlster demonstrates its commitment to the safety of all members of our community. It serves children and youth in these ways:

Child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by over 70% when used correctly. Child Passenger Safety Clinics are scheduled throughout the county at public locations. Fitting Stations provide child seat inspections and offer demonstrations, education, and one-on-one instruction. Call 687-5014 or email wanningp@sunyulster.edu to obtain a schedule of upcoming events near you or to schedule an event at your location. Events are held in Spanish also.

For information on bicycle rodeos for youth in your community, phone 687-5014 or email wanningp@sunyulster.edu.

The 5 hour Pre-Licensing Course, which must be passed prior to the issuance of the MV287 completion certificate, is available year round at the SUNY Ulster campus and the Business Resource Center. This course meets the NYSDMV classroom requirement in driver safety education. Email ceinfo@sunyulster.edu for a complete schedule.

SUNYUlster’s Driver Education program, which is approved by the NYS Education Department, is a 48 hour course, offered in the spring, summer, and fall term at six locations around the County. For additional information, contact program coordinator Linda Corsones at Corsonel@sunyulster.edu.
