Grants/Supported Training

The Development Center for Business will work with you to obtain grants to offset the costs of training. Funds are available from several sources including the Department of Labor and through the SUNY Workforce Development Grant Program. If your company has not yet participated in one of the beneficial programs designed to serve you, now’s the time!

Ulster County companies participating in grant-funded training during the last year include Fala Technologies, Stavo Industries, Timely Signs, Emergency One, Model Optics, Colony Distributors, RUPCO, Hunter Panels, Ameribag, Inc., Charles River Laboratories, Alcoa Fastening Systems, Elna Ferrite, Oxclove Workshop, The Reis Group, Woodstock Percussion, Benedictine and Kingston Hospitals, and FTS.

The New York State Department of Labor is currently offering Advance - NY grants. The Advance grant is designed to provide funding to any type of business and will pay for up to $50,000 worth of training. The DCB can help you understand and navigate the application process.

To view this grant and other opportunities for funding through the Department of Labor visit http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workforcenypartners/funding.shtm and click on Funding Opportunities.

Funds are also available through SUNY Workforce Development Grants for Community Colleges Program. These competitive grants are awarded for noncredit, training programs that address a variety of workforce skills in areas including management, supervision, manufacturing, and computers. Grant applications are generally due in mid-July with approval notification by September. Grant writing and administration is provided by the DCB.

Don’t hesitate to call our office with any questions. We’re here to help you assess your training needs, develop a customized solution to address those needs, and to assist you with the grants themselves. You can reach the DCB at (845) 339-2025, or send an email to oconnord@sunyulster.edu.
