Brendan Burke

As the Artistic Director at the professional Shadowland Theater in Ellenville, New York, Brendan Burke has directed productions of FARRAGUT NORTH, THE SEAFARER, YANKEE TAVERN, AMERICAN BUFFALO, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE, THE DRAWER BOY and LEND ME A TENOR among many others.

Prior to his tenure at Shadowland, Brendan acted and directed in theaters throughout the country and NYC. He holds a degree in Theater Arts from SUNY Geneseo and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity. He is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Theater Arts at SUNY New Paltz.

Workshop #1

Booking an Acting Job in Regional Theater: The Monologue Workshop
Thursday, October 11, 2012

A discussion on the business of acting and how to get a job in the regional market. Students will present monologues for Brendan’s feedback and advise.
Open to SUNY Ulster Acting I and Acting II students only.

Workshop #2

Scene Study: Acting New Works by New Playwrights
Thursday, December 6, 2012 
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – VAN 137

Brendan will work on how an actor approaches new play material from emerging playwrights. SUNY Ulster theater students will present selections of scenes from new plays from the “Humana Festival” of new works. Brendan will critique and guide students on a successful scene presentation.
Open to SUNY Ulster Acting I and Acting II students only.

Workshop #3

From Page to Stage: A Peek Inside the Rehearsal Room
Wednesday, February 27, 2013 
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Quimby Theater

The workshop centers on the process of choosing, analyzing and presenting a short play in this “open rehearsal” setting. Brendan will guide students through the theater process: from the written text to the stage production.
Open to all SUNY Ulster students and the public.
